ILKA is an Australian women’s fashion label specialising in modernist tailoring and known for their poetic use of colour and print. Designed by friends Erin Taylor and Kate Wilks, ILKA was established in April 2016. The ILKA aesthetic is classic-made-contemporary; refined design, complementary fabrication and uncomplicated styling.
As a business ILKA is very invested in supporting the local economy and nurturing talent. They expose customers to a commercial clothing production workspace. Production is based in Australia, rather than off shore, with the intent of remaining within Australia. This is also highly beneficial as lead times are shortened, quality control is very high and minimums are lower allowing styles to be tested and thus allowing ILKA to be very reactive to the market.
ILKA are modernising the atelier model, whereby their garments are designed and drafted at their open studio in Mount Hawthorn, which also serves as their flagship boutique. The designers actively encourage ‘transparency of process’, which allows for invaluable product feedback on fit analysis, fabrications and designs in real-time.
The collections marry smooth minimalist silhouettes and striking statement pieces, all with exceptional construction. ILKA is designed for a trans-seasonal Australian market, with an emphasis on wear-ability and longevity.
Spring/Summer 17/18 Collection
ILKA's upcoming collection for Spring/Summer 2017/18 draws inspiration from Spanish flamenco dancers. Colours are vibrant and sundrenched; Salsa red, crisp white, emerald green, with pops of cyan blue, black and bone. The designs are full of movement and volume, with refined details of flat piped seams, inset pockets and frilled edges.
Necklines are predominately deep V’s and one shouldered with a balance between fitted waists and shift styles. The collection comprises of a mix casual, cocktail and evening items in embroidered and sateen cotton, bold prints, crinkled chiffon, silk satin, tulle and lace.
